Traffic jam on the Seychelle beaches while fly fishing the flats

Are you a die hard fly fisher? If so this Seychelles Fly Fishing trip is for you. Come experience both world class Seychelles fly fishing on the flats plus amazing blue water fishing off the reefs in the tropical Seychelle Islands, all while living on board a semi-luxurious catamaran.

The Republic of the Seychelles comprises over 150 islands stretching over some 900km north to south and 1100km east to west.  The islands that make up the Seychelles differ greatly in their degree of isolation, geology, age, fauna and flora.  Although they formed as part of a huge continent their rocks have never been submerged in nearly 700 million years.

Seychelle Islands flats fishing
Fly Fishing Paradise…

In terms of their geology, history and wildlife, three broad groups of islands can be distinguished:  the inner granitic islands, the low coralline islands and the raised coralline islands. We will introduce clients to one of these special islands that offers some fantastically diverse Seychelles Fly Fishing on the flats and blue water fishing off the reefs, namely, the South Coral Island and The Amirantes. This Outfitter has been taking clients here since 2010 and are very familiar with the area and its unique fishery.

These islands are clear of any pirate activities.

The flats around the Seychelles Islands provides some of the absolute best and most exhilarating salt water fly fishing anywhere. Here you will find yourself wading across grassy, sand flats where the elusive Bonefish, hard fighting Permit, hefty Triggerfish and Yellow Spot Jack’s live and feed. Not to mention GT’s (Giant Trevally) are often found cruising and hunting these amazing flats. If you are prepared and quick on the cast you will have a great opportunity to hook and possibly land a couple of these beasts.

Here you will also find the infamous and hard fighting Bumphead Parrotfish. These fish cruise into very shallow waters around the islands (forming small pods) to feed. They tend to find good crab imitation flies irresistible. Seychelles Fly Fishing gives you the opportunity to hook into one of these beasts and test your gear to its limits.  Anglers also regularly encounter Bluefin Jack’s, Yellowspot Jack’s (Kingfish) and Emperor fish as well as staples such as Barracuda, Grouper, Snapper, Milkfish and Wave Garrick. Its an awesome experience wading and fishing in the pristine and crystal clear waters of the Seychelle flats.

Napolean Wrasse

But lets not forget the world class bluewater fishing.  Blue water fishing off the Seychelles islands is something to behold. Have no doubt you will have sore arms and backs when you complete this adventure. You will fish for Dorado, Giant Trevally, Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Bluefin Trevally, Yellowspot Trevally, Grouper, Green and Rosy Jobfish, Barracuda, Billfish and more…!!!

You are more than welcome to keep some fish for the chef to prepare fresh on the boat each night. So get ready for some fantastic creole style fish and the freshest sashimi you have ever had.

Please note that Seychelles Fly Fishing on the flats requires great casting precision to be successful. The Outfitter’s guides work hard to put you on the fish, so take the time prior to your trip to practice quick accurate casts with 9 and 12 weight rods of 15-30 yards as this will greatly increase your success rates and overall enjoyment of the trip.

Recommended Seychelles Fly Fishing ITINERARY

ARRIVAL DAY

Arrive in Mahe and head to your accommodations for the night ( this is not included in the package price).

DAY 1

You will be up and at it early to get your gear together and get everyone transferred to the mother ship. You can plan on setting sail for your destination around 4am. If you are heading for the South Coral Island you will have about an 8-10 hr motor to get there. If heading to the Amirantes, it is a bit further so expect to arrive late afternoon early evening. Typically you can plan on starting your Seychelles fly fishing adventure that afternoon.

Huge Barracuda

An alternate option for your group to get to the fishing area faster is to charter a 35 minute flight across the islands and meet up with the boat, which will be staged and ready for you. The flight cost is not included in the cost of the trip. The fly in/out option does cost more but the trade off is that you get to spend more time fishing.

DAY 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

Beautiful Bonefish

You will spend your days enjoying the world class flats fishing or heading to some nearby reefs for some unreal blue water fishing. In the evenings they will moore the mother ship in the lee of the island in a protected area so you can enjoy a calm and pleasant evening and a great night of sleep.

DAY 7

Mid-morning of the seventh day you will pull anchor and motor back to Mahe, which will have you back in town early evening. So you will want to plan on staying the night and then flying out the next day. If you choose to utilize the charter flight, then you will have the option to get a couple more hours of fishing in before jumping on the plane for the flight back to Mahe.

 ACCOMMODATIONs on the live-a-board Catamaran

You will be staying on a very nice and comfortable motorized catamaran. Each of the boats has 3-4 cabins with en-suite toilets and shared showers. The boat comes equipped with towels and bedding so you don’t need to worry about that. The boat is staffed with an excellent chef who will prepare exceptional meals for you during your stay, and the fridge has plenty of room for beer so you can kick back and relax with a nice cold one in the evenings. In addition, they have the tender boats to provide quick access to the flats.

The guides and host will advise and assist you on all the fishing. The boat provides trolling tackle but you should bring your own fly fishing gear.
